Before joining Hickey Smith, Paul handled complex and high exposure matters serving as trial counsel and staff counsel for large insurance carriers. His scope of work covered both commercial and personal lines of insurance, including auto liability, commercial trucking liability, employment issues, traumatic brain injury cases, spinal injury, professional malpractice, negligence, product liability, premises liability, breach of contract, bad faith, wrongful termination, employment issues, hour and wage matters, exempt/time issues, discrimination claims, intellectual property, ADA issues, securities, and construction defect litigation.
Earlier in his legal career, Paul served as outside counsel and corporate attorney for one of the largest cosmetic manufacturers in the world managing product liability, employment, and intellectual property cases. There, he created a litigation protocol designed to streamline and reduce litigation-related fees and costs across matters in all local jurisdictions.
While in private practice, Paul focused on litigation and transaction matters, with emphasis on labor and employment litigation, corporate transactional and litigation counseling including complex and high exposure matters. He represented Fortune 500 companies in complex employment matters and is experienced in defending government entities, private employers and management, and other clients in claims brought under the Fair Employment and Housing Act, Title VII, Americans with Disabilities Act, Age Discrimination in Employment Act, Family Medical Leave Act, the Employee Retirement Income Security Act, and California Wage and Hour Laws.
